CNN host Wolf Blitzer sparred with a panelist on his Tuesday show after the analyst defended Nikki Haley for her comments about the history of racism in America.

Blitzer and other panelists were responding to Haley's comments about racism in America.

"We’re not a racist country, Brian. We’ve never been a racist country," Haley told Fox News host Brian Kilmeade on Tuesday. "Our goal is to make sure that today is better than yesterday. Are we perfect? No. But our goal is to always make sure we try and be more perfect every day that we can."

Political commentator SE Cupp defended Haley for her comments.

"First of all, she acknowledged within that clip that racism exists and she’s faced it," Cupp said, interrupting another panelist. "[Haley] knows about it. It happened in her backyard. But if voters need their presidential candidate to say that America is a racist country, well, they have no one to vote for because just a year and a half ago, Joe Biden said the same exact thing. I don’t think it’s all that controversial to say, of course, there’s racism, examples of racism and systemic racism that we all need to address, but [saying] that maybe America on the whole is not a racist country is not that controversial, actually."

Blitzer responded directly to Cupp, asking if Haley remembers "all the segregated schools, the movie theaters, the restaurants?"

"That was pretty racist," he added.

"Of course," Cupp replied, saying that she doesn't know "how much time Haley has to give a history lesson every time she's asked this question."

"Joe Biden couldn’t do it either," she said. "Joe Biden talked about Jim Crow but also said this is not a racist country. I think if we’re applying these standards, we have to apply them fairly."

"It’s obviously a tremendous improvement over the years, but going back, when she said we’ve never been a racist country, that’s clearly a false statement," Blitzer said.

When asked about racism in America, President Biden said that he didn't believe that "the American people are racist," according to CNN

"No, I don’t think the American people are racist," Biden said. "But I think after 400 years, African Americans have been left in a position where they’re so far behind the 8-ball in terms of education, health, in terms of opportunity."

"I don't think that America's racist," he added.
