European security officials believe two Russian space vehicles have intercepted the communications of at least a dozen key satellites over the continent. From a report: Officials believe that the likely interceptions, which have not previously been reported, risk not only compromising sensitive information transmitted by the satellites but could also allow Moscow to manipulate their trajectories or even crash them. Russian space vehicles have shadowed European satellites more intensively over the past three years, at a time of high tension between the Kremlin and the West following Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. For several years, military and civilian space authorities in the West have been tracking the activities of Luch-1 and Luch-2 -- two Russian objects that have carried out repeated suspicious maneuvers in orbit. Both vehicles have made risky close approaches to some of Europe's most important geostationary satellites, which operate high above the Earth and service the continent, including the UK, as well as large parts of Africa and the Middle East. According to orbital data and ground-based telescopic observations, they have lingered nearby for weeks at a time, particularly over the past three years. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., attacked CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss on Tuesday in a rant against the media and said the network executive "killed" a "60 Minutes" segment on El Salvador's maximum-security prison that aired in January. Ocasio-Cortez said during an appearance on ex-CNN host Don Lemon's show that MS NOW, CNN and CBS were home to some of the "best journalists" in the U.S., before taking aim at Weiss in an argument against what she says is the "oligarchical ownership structure" of media. "We saw what happened with that '60 Minutes' piece on [Center for Confinement of Terrorism] CECOT. Bari Weiss killed it. And she’s not there because she’s a good journalist; she’s there because she kisses billionaire butt, and she makes them look good, and she executes on the censorship agenda that they want to see put out," Ocasio-Cortez told Lemon. The CECOT "60 Minutes" segment aired on Jan. 18, after initially being delayed by Weiss at the end of December. CBS, BARI WEISS FACING MOUNTING BACKLASH FROM LIBERAL CRITICS OVER YANKING '60 MINUTES' SEGMENT Fox News Digital reported that Weiss made the decision to delay the segment after determining that, while the interviews were "powerful," the story ultimately did not "advance the ball" and "was not ready." CBS News and Ocasio-Cortez's office did not immediately return Fox News Digital's requests for comment. Ocasio-Cortez also took aim at The Washington Post, which is owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos. "So now, it’s not just that these companies are very big, but that they answer to one very specifically, usually one billionaire with a very vested political agenda," she said. "And so you have Jeff Bezos, who takes over the Washington Post — not because he loves journalism, but because he needs to start controlling and ensuring that dissenting opinions do not get aired in papers of record." "And so it’s not a coincidence, then, that you’ve got Jeff Bezos that takes over the Washington Post and then immediately takes over their opinion section, starts to take over their coverage of the 2024 election." Ocasio-Cortez said the "same thing" happened with the Los Angeles Times. That outlet's editorial board also declined to endorse a presidential candidate in 2024. Bezos also announced changes to the Post opinion section in early 2025, saying, "We are going to be writing every day in support and defense of two pillars: personal liberties and free markets. We’ll cover other topics too of course, but viewpoints opposing those pillars will be left to be published by others." As marijuana's potential health benefits are under debate, new research has found that THC could have a powerful and positive effect on the brain. Researchers at the University of Texas (UT) at San Antonio, Long School of Medicine, recently discovered that THC (tetrahydrocannabinol, the main psychoactive compound in marijuana) could prevent the development of Alzheimer’s disease – but only when paired with an anti-inflammatory drug called celecoxib. Celecoxib is a selective COX-2 inhibitor that is commonly prescribed for arthritis and pain. ALZHEIMER’S DECLINE COULD SLOW DRAMATICALLY WITH ONE SIMPLE DAILY HABIT, STUDY FINDS While THC has previously been shown to have anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties, it’s also been linked to negative effects on the brain, particularly in learning and memory, according to a UT Health press release. Combining THC with an anti-inflammatory drug, however, could provide the same benefits with fewer negative side effects. The study, which was published in the journal Aging and Disease, paired low-dose THC extract with celecoxib, which was administered to mice daily for 30 days. The mice received the treatments before the development of memory symptoms to measure the impact on preventing or delaying Alzheimer’s. CANCER MAY TRIGGER UNEXPECTED DEFENSE AGAINST ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE, RESEARCHERS SAY The results showed improved cognition, learning and memory, as well as decreased markers of neuroinflammation and reduced Alzheimer’s-related brain pathology, the release stated. Although THC alone had the same results, it also increased inflammatory signals, while the combination dosage did not. "What really mattered was behavior. If cognition is not improved, then the treatment doesn’t matter. And that’s where the combination clearly worked better than THC alone," noted lead study author Chu Chen, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Cellular and Integrative Physiology. Years of research led Chen to connect the dots on how THC can manipulate the brain and why it’s difficult to use safely for neurological conditions, according to UT Health. Both THC and celecoxib are FDA-approved for use in humans, which could provide a "real advantage" in moving along to clinical trials, according to UT Health. Future studies will investigate whether the drug combination can slow disease progression or reverse deficits after symptoms have appeared. "We also know that the buildup of the plaques related to Alzheimer's [beta-amyloid plaques] are the result of chronic inflammation." "So, it makes sense that this combination therapy [might] help limit the production of this amyloid and thereby reduce the progression of the disease." Saphier said the drugs’ FDA approval status is "encouraging," as it may "ultimately ease the availability for patients, if the trial proves successful." More than a month after the Transparency Act’s deadline, the DOJ releases three million pages of Jeffrey Epstein case files, 2,000 videos, and 180,000 pictures. Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche says nearly twice that amount of pages were collected as “potentially responsive” to the act, but in the process of review, redaction, and de-duplication, it was whittled to the nearly 3.5 million pages now made public. Not all videos and images were taken by Epstein or someone around him. They include large quantities of commercial pornography and images that were seized from Epstein's devices, but which he did not take. The files include 2019 FBI emails suggesting 10 possible Epstein co-conspirators. The correspondence indicates 6 of those participants are served subpoenas: three in Florida, and one each from Boston, New York City, and Connecticut. The only unredacted names in the file? ‘Maxwell’ and ‘Wexner,’ possibly referring to former Victoria’s Secret CEO Les Wexner. Wexner, who had a public friendship with Epstein, said in 2019 he was "embarrassed" by his ties to the financier. His lawyers claim Wexner was “neither a co-conspirator nor a target” of that investigation. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has doubled down on its warning against transgender surgeries for minors under 19, a move one member told Fox News reflects a broader return to "common sense" and science over ideology. "[They're] really looking at the evidence, and their statement says that the benefits do not outweigh the harms, and [that] the current evidence is low quality or poor quality," Dr. Sheila Nazarian told "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday. "These are kids we're talking about. Many of us have been very loud on this issue, and I'm so happy to see that the American Society of Plastic Surgeons is doubling down on their statement from last year." FORMER TRANSGENDER CLINIC INSIDER CALLS $2M GENDER SURGERY VERDICT ‘TIP OF THE ICEBERG’ The organization updated its guidance on Tuesday to formally recommend delaying irreversible gender-related surgical procedures until patients are at least 19 years old, citing long-term data from Europe that raised concerns about outcomes for minors. Nazarian noted that "progressive-leaning" European countries like England, Sweden and Finland have already halted such procedures for minors, citing long-term findings that also influenced ASPS’s decision. When asked how the procedures have been allowed to proceed without evidence supporting their efficacy for mental health, Nazarian said she initially thought doctors were doing the right thing until she approached one with questions about the data. Nazarian went further, arguing that many minors who underwent the procedures had underlying mental health or developmental conditions and were not given adequate informed consent. "Thirty to 60% based on what study you look at of these children had a concurrent medical, mental, behavioral diagnosis like autism, like depression, like anxiety, and these doctors and psychologists told their parents, ‘You can either have a transgender child or a dead child,’ and that is emotional blackmail," she said. "There's no evidence showing that these procedures actually decrease suicidality, so they were lied to. They were not given informed consent, and based off of that, I really think that they have a lawsuit." View the full article
