A great white shark has been cruising just off Florida's coast. The 9-foot, 433-pound female shark, known as "Brass Bed," was detected northeast of Cape Canaveral earlier this month after her satellite tag transmitted a signal, researchers said. Brass Bed was originally tagged in October 2025 near Mahone Bay in Nova Scotia, researchers told news agency SWNS. John Tyminski, senior data scientist at OCEARCH, told SWNS the movement is consistent with seasonal patterns that researchers observe each year. "This is a common route that we see with white sharks at this time of year," Tyminski said. Some sharks continue even farther. At 9 feet 2 inches long, Brass Bed is considered a juvenile female. She was tagged through a collaboration between OCEARCH and the Tancook Islands Marine Field Station, led by marine scientist Nigel Hussey, Ph.D., SWNS said. Brass Bed has proven somewhat elusive since being tagged. Her recent track, however, shows steady movement south along Florida’s east coast. The Cape Canaveral area, where she was most recently detected, is known for its abundant marine life. It’s generally considered a fairly sharky area." Researchers will continue monitoring her movements to see whether she remains along Florida’s coast or heads farther west into the Gulf. After Salta was crowned the winner, Jelly Roll — who is a judge on the competition show — explained that he is terrified of magicians. Mark Zuckerberg is testifying in a landmark Los Angeles trial examining whether Meta and other social media firms can be held liable for designing platforms that allegedly addict and harm children. NBC News reports: It's the first of a consolidated group of cases -- from more than 1,600 plaintiffs, including over 350 families and over 250 school districts -- scheduled to be argued before a jury in Los Angeles County Superior Court. Plaintiffs accuse the owners of Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and Snap of knowingly designing addictive products harmful to young users' mental health. Historically, social media platforms have been largely shielded by Section 230, a provision added to the Communications Act of 1934, that says internet companies are not liable for content users post. TikTok and Snap reached settlements with the first plaintiff, a 20-year-old woman identified in court as K.G.M., ahead of the trial. The companies remain defendants in a series of similar lawsuits expected to go to trial this year. FIRST ON FOX: A man accused of shooting a South Carolina deputy in the chest during an early-morning traffic stop has been identified as a criminal illegal immigrant with a prior deportation and felony illegal re-entry conviction, according to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). DHS officials told Fox News Digital that Charleston County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) deputies responded to a call for shots fired shortly after 9 p.m. on Feb. 10 on Johns Island. They were unable to find the suspect, later identified as Floriberto Perez-Nieto, a criminal illegal immigrant from Mexico. At about 3 a.m. the next day, deputies received another call from the same person, who reported Perez-Nieto had returned to the area. DHS URGES NEWSOM TO HONOR ICE DETAINERS AFTER FEDERAL AGENT ASSAULTED WHILE ARRESTING ILLEGAL ALIEN AT JAIL Deputies spotted Perez-Nieto's car and attempted to pull him over, but he tried to evade arrest and shot one of the deputies in the chest, according to authorities. Other deputies returned fire and Perez-Nieto was later pronounced dead at the hospital. DHS officials said the deputy who was shot in the chest was wearing body armor. DHS ARRESTS 'WORST OF THE WORST' ILLEGAL MIGRANTS, INCLUDING MURDERERS AND PEDOPHILES, IN WEEKEND OPERATION "This criminal illegal alien illegally obtained a firearm and nearly killed a law enforcement officer," DHS assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News Digital. "Thankfully, the officer’s body armor saved his life. There could have been quite a different tragic outcome for this officer and his family." The deputy who was shot has not yet been publicly identified by authorities. Perez-Nieto was previously arrested after he illegally entered the U.S. from Mexico, at an unknown date and location, and without inspection by an immigration official, according to DHS. The CCSO professional standards division will conduct an internal investigation related to the shooting. Deputies involved have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending further review, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
